Functional Analyst

Nexeo is currently looking for a Functional Analyst to join the Energy Management & Power IS team of one of our leading energy clients in Brussels.

You will play a key role in designing, documenting and supporting business-critical applications used for power asset portfolio management and asset-backed energy trading.

The scope covers different power generation technologies, including thermal, nuclear, renewable energy and battery storage. You will work at the intersection of Business, IT, Trading, Energy Markets and Technology, translating complex business needs into reliable and scalable IT solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Functional Analyst / Business Analyst / Technical Analyst with a strong interest in energy commodities, power markets, financial products and technology.

Your Responsibilities

Business & Functional Analysis

• Identify, analyze and document business and functional requirements for power asset portfolio management and trading applications.
• Translate complex business needs into clear functional specifications and technical requirements.
• Analyze existing processes and applications and identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
• Work closely with business users, developers, traders and technical teams to ensure alignment between business requirements and IT solutions.
• Contribute to the design and evolution of applications supporting energy asset management and trading activities.

Functional Specifications & User Stories

• Write detailed functional specifications and technical requirements.
• Translate requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria and business test cases.
• Ensure that software developments correctly implement the defined business requirements.
• Contribute to proper unit-test coverage and functional validation.
• Maintain clear and comprehensive technical and end-user documentation.

Testing & Test Automation

• Design and execute functional and regression test scenarios.
• Perform manual regression testing for application releases and new features.
• Develop and maintain automated regression tests using Python.
• Analyze test results and identify defects or inconsistencies.
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure issues are properly investigated and resolved.
• Validate delivered solutions against business expectations and acceptance criteria.

Application & User Support

• Act as the first line of support for internal users of the applications.
• Investigate functional and technical issues reported by users.
• Perform root-cause analysis and coordinate resolution with the appropriate technical teams.
• Support the onboarding of new users and ensure they understand the team's applications and tools.
• Prepare and maintain user support documentation and procedures.
• Ensure smooth day-to-day interaction between users, applications and technical teams.

DevOps, Cloud & Infrastructure

• Collaborate with DevOps, Infrastructure and Helpdesk teams on application-related topics.
• Support operational activities related to application availability and stability.
• Work with Azure cloud environments.
• Understand and support application operations in Kubernetes environments, including basic activities such as restarting pods, VMs and services.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of application monitoring, deployment and support processes.
• Work with APIs and integrations between different applications and systems.

⚡ Energy & Business Domain

• Develop a good understanding of power markets and energy commodities trading.
• Understand the role of power plants and generation assets in energy portfolio management.
• Work with different technologies including:
• Thermal power plants
• Nuclear power
• Renewable energy
• Battery storage
• Understand the relationship between power asset management, portfolio optimization and energy trading.
• Develop knowledge of commodities markets, particularly Power and Gas.
• Understand the principles of pricing and risk analysis within an energy trading environment.
• Apply knowledge of financial products, including basic understanding of options and their lifecycle such as payoff and exercise.

Your Profile

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Functional Analyst, Business Analyst, Quantitative Analyst, Software Developer, Data Engineer, Data Scientist or similar role.
• Strong experience working in complex IT and business environments.
• Proven ability to analyze and translate complex requirements into functional solutions.
• Strong interest or experience in Energy, Commodities or Financial Markets.
• Experience working with business users and technical teams.
• Hands-on and proactive approach to problem solving.
• Comfortable working on multiple topics simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Skills

Mandatory:

• Python scripting – 3 to 5 years
• SQL – 3 to 5 years
• API / system integration experience
• Strong understanding of functional analysis
• Experience with test automation
• Good knowledge of MS Excel
• Experience with user support
• Understanding of DevOps practices
• Knowledge of Cloud / Azure
• Good understanding of application operations and technical environments.
