About the Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a global leader in the semiconductor equipment industry for a Field Service Engineer to join a dedicated engineering team based at a prestigious semiconductor research facility in Leuven, Belgium.

This position has been created to support the introduction of a new semiconductor processing tool, offering a unique opportunity to be involved from installation and start-up through to ongoing support and maintenance.

Working within a highly technical customer environment, you will be responsible for ensuring equipment performance, reliability and uptime while collaborating with international engineering teams and onsite stakeholders.

This role would suit a technically strong Field Service Engineer, Customer Engineer or Equipment Engineer with semiconductor industry experience who enjoys troubleshooting complex systems and working directly with customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the installation, commissioning and qualification of advanced semiconductor equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance activities to maximise equipment performance and uptime.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair complex electrical, mechanical and electromechanical systems.
• Respond effectively to equipment breakdowns and minimise operational disruption.
• Implement engineering changes, upgrades and modifications.
• Work closely with customers, engineering teams and internal stakeholders to deliver exceptional service support.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, service records and reports.
• Support equipment performance analysis and continuous improvement activities.
• Provide technical guidance and training to customers where required.
• Escalate and coordinate complex technical issues with global support teams.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety, quality and compliance standards.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer, Customer Engineer, Equipment Engineer, Service Engineer or similar technical support role.
• Semiconductor industry experience.
• Experience supporting complex capital equipment, manufacturing systems or semiconductor tools.
• Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Experience carrying out installation, maintenance and repair activities.
• Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or related engineering background.
• Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
• Fluent English language skills.
• Ability to work independently within a highly technical and fast-paced environment.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work full-time onsite in Leuven, Belgium.
• Relocation to Belgium if not currently based locally.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience supporting semiconductor process equipment.
• Previous experience with semiconductor equipment manufacturers such as:
• Tokyo Electron (TEL)
• Applied Materials
• Lam Research
• KLA
• ASML
• SCREEN Semiconductor
• ASM International
• Cleanroom experience.
• Start-up, commissioning or installation project experience.
• Experience working within semiconductor R&D or research environments.
• Experience collaborating with international engineering teams.
• Japanese language skills.

Qualifications

• Degree, Diploma, Apprenticeship or Certificate in:
• Electrical Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Mechatronics
• Maintenance Engineering
• Or a related discipline

OR

• Equivalent industry experience supporting semiconductor equipment or complex technical systems.
