About Our Client Our client is a family-owned savings bank and financial loan institution. Today, the company counts around 80 employees who ensure growth and profitability in Belgium and France. Our client's mission is to provide financial solutions to particulars and business on tailor-made basis. To support their growth, our client is looking for a Legal Counsel who will play a crucial role in ensuring legal compliance and providing strategic advice.
Job Description You will work cross-functionally with various departments and act as a pragmatic and reliable advisor with a broad legal scope. You will report direclty to the CEO.
In a generalist role, you take overall responsibility for legal matters in the organization. You develop a legal control framework to make the organization more compliant.
You monitor relevant regulations and legislation, identify and analyze legal risks in the operation of the bank. A thorough knowledge (or acquisition) and analysis and application of credit legislation (including WER) are crucial.
You act as a trusted advisor to management and develop strategies to minimize risks.
You provide an up-to-date and smoothly functioning Corporate Governance and Housekeeping.
You assess and draft contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
You represent the company in legal disputes and negotiations with external parties.
You provide training and information sessions for maximum awareness of relevant topics.
The Successful Applicant You have a Master's in Law with solid experience (minimum 5 years) as a corporate lawyer, attorney, or legal consultant. Experience in the banking sector is an asset.
You have an extensive knowledge of relevant regulations (commercial law, contract and consumer law, corporate & privacy law, national and international).
You have excellent communication and negotiation skills.
You can explain complex legal concepts clearly and understandably to non-legal stakeholders.
You have the ability to work autonomously and demonstrate stress resistance, flexibility, and integrity.
Your analytically critical perspective detects both opportunities and risks that you proactively translate into problem-solving actions.
You are concise, practical, and decisive.
You are fluent in three languages (Dutch, French, and English).
